This tour through the Comarca de la Sidra (cider region) visits three of The most beautiful villages in Spain. Lastres/Llastres and Tazones are two picturesque fishing villages. Torazo/Torazu is a typical Asturian mountain village (Pueblo Ejemplar de Asturias Award in 2008). You will discover sections of the Costa Verde, which is, without a doubt, one of the best-preserved stretches of coastline in Spain. Also, if you have time, you will be able to see dinosaur footprints on La Griega beach or an authentic Asturian pre-Romanesque gem, the church of San Salvador de Valdediós.

Comarca de la Sidra Villaviciosa

We start the tour on the AS-258 road towards Colunga. This road of many curves but spectacular views of the Asturian mountains goes up to the Alto de La Llama, where there is an access to the Sierra del Sueve, and then down to Colunga. Here we take the AS-257 to Lastres.

In Lastres, especially in the summer, we recommend parking at the top, next to the Chapel of San Roque, where there is a free carpark, and / or at the bottom, in the port, where there is more free parking spaces are rare. From the Chapel of San Roque there is a viewpoint to enjoy the views of the coast and this fishing village. We advise walking down to the port, getting lost in the streets. It is the best way to appreciate the complicated urban fabric. Once in the port, if you walk to the end of either of the two dams, there is also a good view of Lastres. If you decide to eat at Lastres, we recommend reserving at El Barrigón de Bertín.

From Lastres you go to Tazones by the AS-257 first and then by the A-8 (N-632 if you decided to visit the Playa de Rodiles). In Tazones we recommend leaving the car in the parking lot at the entrance of the town, on the right. Tazones is much smaller than Lastres but has many more restaurants, mostly specialised in fish and seafood. Our favourite restaurant is the Rompeolas, the last one on the left. It is advisable to book.

In Torazo we recommend leaving the car at the end of town, next to the Hostería and the chapel. From here you can walk to the church through its cobbled streets, enjoying its traditional rural architecture of hórreos (granaries) and well-kept houses with their typical galleries and balconies. If you want to have a drink here, we recommend the terrace of the Hostería.

From Torazo to el gran sueño take and enjoy the charming road AS-334.

Extra alternative visits:

  • Playa de la Griega (+ 1km + 2mins round trip): go and check the dinosaur footprints at the end of the beach or walk the coastal path to La Isla

  • Faro de Luces (+ 4.5km + 10min round trip): from here you can enjoy spectacular views of the Green Coast

  • Rodiles beach (+ 9.5km + 15min round trip): for a walk along the boardwalk, avoid in the summer months

  • Church and Monastery of San Salvador de Valdediós (+ 15km + 30 mins round trip): one of our favourite pre-Romanesque churches

Recommended restaurants:

  • El Barrigón de Bertín, Lastres
  • Casa Rula (Bar El Cruce), Selorio - near the Rodiles beach
  • El Rompeolas, Tazones
  • Sidrería Lena, Villaviciosa
The old town of Torazo
