Carson running round Pico Viyao

The route starts in the plaza of El Caspio and enters the woods opposite our guest house. Alternatively, if it has been raining, or you only have trainers, you can take the road out of El Caspio and take a left at the bottom, turning back on yourself and walking in the direction of Torazo. Stay on this road for 1 km, at which point you will see a small, black sign, hand-painted with "La Formiga". Take this right turn and head up the steep hill. In 600 metres you arrive at La Formiga. As you catch your breath at the top of the hill, be sure to take in the views across the pastures to the Picos de Europa on your right. Walk in front of the house at La Formiga and turn back on yourself, behind the house. Keep heading uphill.

The track keeps heading uphill until you reach a point where the road turns right and goes behind Pico Viyao. Keep to the asphalt track for 1.2 km, at which point you come to a T-junction. You need to go straight on, but make a mental note of this point as on the return leg you will turn downhill here.

In 900 metres you will see a path to your right, take this path behind some houses for 600 meters when you will arrive at Anayo. You will see the bar at the bottom of the hill in front of you.

When you leave the bar cross the road and take the path uphill and keep right (the track on your left is where you arrived earlier). Take the road with the houses on your left and follow this for 700 metres and meet a T-junction. Take a right and you are back on the asphalt track heading back to Pico Viyao. Stay on this road for another 800 metres and you will come to the T-junction where I said to make a mental note of the paths. Here you need to turn right and head downhill.

Continue on this asphalt road for another 2 km and you will enter a eucalyptus forest. The asphalt road continues down a steep hill for 1 km until you reach a T-junction at the bottom. Take a lefthand turn on the road.

Stay on this road for 1.5 km until you reach home. You can stick to the road, or if you prefer to finish following the Wikiloc route, you enter the woods opposite the sign for Brecín and follow the woodland path. After about 200 metres turn right and up a little hill thick with fallen leaves. Turn left at the top and you will see the exit of the woods in front of you.
