Local Walk 1: La Formiga

A favorite amongst our guests. The walk climbs the hill through the woods behind Brecín peaking at La Formiga. Dropping down via La Roza to Busllería. On the return leg, you pass the church of San Cristóbal and the village of Pintueles before closing the loop by finishing back at El gran sueño.

1. Start at El gran sueño: Begin your journey in the plaza of El Caspio and enter the woods opposite our house, behind the chicken house just past the rubbish containers.
2. Through the Woods: Follow the well-trodden path, going straight first and then taking a right, emerging on the road towards Brecín.
3. Brecín hamlet: Walk through Brecín, round the hórreo, and exit between two houses at the upper left corner of the hamlet.
4. Into the woods: Pass a chicken hut on the right and follow a grass path uphill. Turn left into the woods and continue uphill for 1 km to reach La Formiga.
5. Enjoy the views from La Formiga: Take in the panoramic vistas of eastern Asturias, including the Picos de Europa, Ponga, Redes, Peñamayor, and Sierra del Aramo in Oviedo.
6. Descend to La Roza: Follow a country road down to La Roza, admiring a beautiful Asturian country house.
7. Trail to Busllería: Take another woodland trail downhill to exit at Busllería, a semi-abandoned hamlet.
8. Meadow path to Iglesia de San Cristóbal: Navigate a winding path through meadows to reach the Church of Saint Christopher (Iglesia de San Cristóbal).
9. Down to Pintueles: Proceed down the road to the picturesque village of Pintueles, observing traditional Asturian houses and hórreos.
10. From the church to the palace: Complete your journey by following the path that loops back to El Caspio, where the Palace of Santo Domingo and its chapel are prominent features among village houses and hórreos.
11. Through El Caspio: after an hórreo and a row of houses (on your left), bear right until you arrive back at El gran sueño.
